Neighborhood Health Center awarded $400K grant to expand school-based health services

Funding will mean access to dental services and expanded access to healthcare for students

PORTLAND, Ore., May 24, 2022 – Neighborhood Health Center (NHC) was recently awarded a $400,000 grant by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to expand services at NHC’s School-Based Health Center at Tualatin High School.

The Health Center at Tualatin High School currently offers medical services to students within the Tigard-Tualatin School District (TTSD).

Kristen Weidner-Nguyen is NHC’s School-Based Health Centers Clinic Manager. She says the grant, which provides $200K per year over a two-year project period, will fund outfitting a dental operatory, adding dental screenings and cleanings as a new service line.

“We’re really excited to be able to offer dental care to students – many of whom may not otherwise have access to these services,” said Weidner-Nguyen.

“The funds will also be used to expand primary care and dental health services and promote outreach efforts within the district’s service area, connecting more students with quality care,” she added.

NHC’s School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) offer a unique healthcare model in which comprehensive physical, mental and preventive health services are provided to youth in a school setting. SBHCs see children who otherwise would not get care and help students get back to the classroom faster.

The School-Based Health Center at Tualatin High School is located at 22300 SW Boones Ferry Road, Tualatin, OR 97062.
