$400K Grant Expands Healthcare Access for Rural Canby Residents
PORTLAND, Ore., February 24, 2025 – Neighborhood Health Center (NHC) was recently awarded a $400,000 grant by the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust to support the expansion of NHC Canby Medical and Dental Clinic, which relocated last fall to increase patient access to care and expand service offerings. This grant money is part of a larger grant fundraising effort to finance the relocation of the clinic and expansion of services.
With the support of this grant, NHC Canby Medical and Dental Clinic was able to open its doors to over 3,600 new patients in the Canby area. The clinic was also able to add new service offerings to its existing array, including dental care and a dispensing pharmacy.
“The generosity of M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust allows NHC to connect more neighbors in Canby with the quality healthcare they deserve,” said Jeri Weeks, NHC’s Chief Executive Officer. “Murdock Trust’s financial support is vital to increasing our variety of services which directly impact the health of Canby residents and surrounding communities.”
The Canby community was hit hard last year as financial difficulties forced numerous pharmacies to close their doors. NHC’s new dispensing pharmacy is crucial to maintaining access to care for rural Canby residents. The support of grantors like M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust ensures NHC can expand their services to meet patients where they are.
M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust supports the growth of nonprofits in the Pacific Northwest through grantmaking, enrichment programs, and convening work. Since their founding in 1975, they’ve granted over $1.4 billion to more than 3000 organizations in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. Murdock Trust is one of the top five largest private foundations in the Pacific Northwest and one of the top 100 in the country.
