Neighborhood Health Center Receives $40k Grant to Help Patients Access Patient Care Services

PORTLAND, Ore., May 13, 2024—The Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation has awarded Neighborhood Health Center (NHC) a $40,000 grant to support patient care services. The funding will launch NHC’s neighbors’ assistance funds, ensuring uninsured or underinsured patients can access necessary services.

More than 13% of people in NHC’s service area have delayed or skipped getting needed care, prescriptions, or labs because it was too expensive. The neighbors’ assistance funds will enhance patient outcomes by providing reliable access to critical to their health.

"Finances are a substantial barrier for many patients needing care,” Dr. Jennifer McElravey, Director of Pharmacy, said. “This award paves the way for our new Neighbors Assistance Fund, which ensures no patient is denied access to services for an inability to pay.”

Access to essential services is a cornerstone of maintaining and improving health. The neighbors’ assistance funds will complement NHC's other services that support patient needs, including prescription delivery for qualifying patients and a contactless prescription locker, opening in this May, for easy pickup at NHC’s largest clinic in Tanasbourne.
